MS Word - "The file XYZ>doc is not avaliable" error

Recently re-installed MS Office Professional 2003 to fix other problems.
After successful re-install & trying to use MS Word and open a file, I
receive the follwing error:
"The File XYZ.doc is not available"
When I try to exit MS Word, I receive the following message:
"The file Normal.doc already exists - Do you want to replace the file?"
Hitiing the "NO" key yields a "SAVE AS" dialog box with the Normal.doc file
highlighted in the SAVE AS Dialog.
Hitting the CANCEL KEY yields the following message:
"Changes have been made that affect the global template Normal.doc - Do you
want to save the changes?"
Hitiing NO finally exits MS Word.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition - SP 1
& Office professional 2003.

Any insight or advice on what my problem is or better yet some sort of fix
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Hi garfield-n-odie,

I do not have nor have ever had the Symantec/Norton AntiVirus program.
I've scanned my hard drive for the officeav.dll & it's not on my system.

I do have Macafee Virus software installed, but it is also currently broken.
Is this in some way the potentail cause of my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Rich

As far as I know, Norton is the only thing that causes this particular
error message. When you searched for officeav.dll, did you include
hidden and system files and folders in the search options?

yes, I did. I didn't expect to ever be there anyway because I never had the
Norton Anti-Virus program. Any other ideas?
