MS WORD vertical slider disappeared

Somehow the vertical slider that is usually on the right when editing or
reading a document has disappeared. How do I get it back?

in Word 2007 left click on round "Office button" in upper left corner; in
bottom right corner of window that opens choose "Word Options"; go to Display
and check "show vertical scroll bar"
