MS Word Visual Basic wont load

Don Shirer

After a disc crash (repaired) on my Mac G4 powerbook
running OS9, MS Word hangs up while "configuring Visual
Basic" then quits with error message. Tried easy install
from CD, same thing.
Can't ask MS for help--their automated help system says
"this product not supported in designated country" when I
type in the product number. Arrgh.
Anyone have any ideas? I would hate to recreate all
those word files with a disk editor.

Hi

If you re-install or install anything from the CDs after you installed
office updates then you need to re-run the updates so that all of Office's
components can work together at the expected version number.

Re-run the updates then run Disk Utility First Aid to repair permissions.
That should put things back into working order.

Thanks for the suggestion Jim. I tried it but First Aid
did not detect any problem, and got same error message when
starting Word (hangs up when initiallizing Visual Basic).

(I had also deleted everything looking like MS extensions
and preferences from System folder before installatiion)

What's strange is that Excel (from same office
installation) seems to work just fine.

Then I guess it's time to do a complete uninstall then a re-intsall. If
you are using an older version of Office check the download site at
Microsoft for the uninstall program. If there is one there for your
version of office, use the download instead of the uninstall program on
the CD.
