MS Word Web page screentips

I posted this a couple of years ago and I noticed that this bug STILL
hasn't been fixed. Does anyone know if Microsoft has this on their
radar for fixing?

Here's the original post:

I posted this a week or so again, but no one's responded. I thought I'd try
again to see if anyone has a suggestion.
I've been working on creating a webpage using Microsoft Word. I spend at
least an hour adding screentips to my hyperlinks. When I opened it the next
time, the screentips were gone! Does anyone know why they wouldn't have
been saved when everything else was? Every time I try to edit the hyperlink
to add the screentip back in, it shows up UNTIL I quit and open it up the
next time.

It's a bug.

Word v.X and 2004 (somewhat) correctly generate the link with the
"title" argument, e.g.:

<a href="http://www.mcgimpsey.com/macoffice/" title=MySite>

(under strict HTML, the title property should be in quotes).

However, when reading in the html file, the title property is ignored.

**Please** drop MacBU a line and tell them you want to be able to
round-trip HTML files *accurately* in Word. Choose the Help/Feedback on
Word... menu item.

Hi Michelle,

Did you send feedback to MSFT as J.E. suggested? If so, the bug should have
been recorded in their bug database. However, it wouldn't hurt to do so
again since they're working on the next version of Word now.

Whether or not they consider this bug a priority or not, I don't know. As I
said in my response to your other post, Word's web page creation function is
really there so that people can post a Word doc to the web and get it back
again in the Word doc format. It makes bloated HTML. It is *not* a good
web page creation tool and should not be depended on for that purpose.

I hadn't sent the feedback at the time because I forgot about it. But
after finding my original set of messages, I did finally send the
feedback.

Hi Michaelle:

That's a pity :) You've missed the version they would have fixed it in :)

No, seriously: It takes six to nine years (two to three versions) to get a
"new feature" into a piece of software.

Microsoft made a decision not to implement screen tips in Word. So you need
to add your voice to all the other users requesting them, then wait for the
suggestion to bubble up onto the radar of the people doing Word product
design for PC Word, get implemented there, then come back down to Mac Word.

Realistically, it's not going to happen.

However, the next version of Mac Word is built on XML, so they may well have
decided to implement this ability. We shall all have to wait to see :)
The reason I'm not giving you a straight answer to your question is that
they won't tell any of us exactly what's in it until they're ready to start
selling it.

Sorry to be no help at all!

I guess that I just assumed that it "did" screen tips since it's given
as an option in the "edit hyperlink" window. It does "do" them for the
current session, it just loses them between sessions. Bummer. Thanks
for the background information though.
