MS Word

I have a Dell 8300 computer with Windows XP Home Edition. When clicking on
a .doc file in Windows Explorer, Ms Word freezes with the title bar blinking.
The MS Word Icon on the taskbar turns orange and is also blinking. On the
bottom of the page is a message, “Running Virus Scan.†I have run Norton
Anti-virus, AVG Anti-virus, Trend Micro Virus Scan, Spybot, Ad-Aware,
F-Secure and Windows Defender, and no viruses we found!
When I click on the MS Word icon on the desk top, Word opens up without a
problem. Clicking on File, Open, opens up .doc files without a problem. My
question is: Why can’t I open .doc files in Windows Explorer? Also, I have no
problem opening .xls files in Windows Explorer.
P.S. If I do have a virus and none of my virus programs can detect it,
what’s the next step? Thank you.

Too many antivirus programs for my taste. Ever hear the
expression "Too many cooks spoil the soup"?

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Norton Antivirus. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office
programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more
information.

If the problem persists, then disable the Office Plugin that
comes with AVG by clicking on Start | Run, and in the Open box, type:

regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll

You may need to specify the full path to the avgoff2k.dll file
(e.g., c:\pathname\avgoff2k.dll) in the Run command. You might
try reading the Help instructions that come with AVG or visit
AVG's website http://www.grisoft.com to see if they offer any
other suggestions.

Your suggestion about disabling the Norton Antivirus plugin helped to open Ms
Word with Windows Explorer, but after clicking on the .doc file I want to
open in Win Explorer, a Microsoft Office Word dialog box opens up with this
message: “Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these
suggestions. 1. Check file permissions for the document or drive. (?) 2. Make
sure there is sufficient free memory & disk space ( I have plenty of both)
and 3. Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. (I don’t know what
this means). When I click OK on this dialog box, MS Word opens up normally.
So, if you can tell me how to get rid of those Dialog boxes, everything
should be fine! I want to thank you again for all the help you have been
giving me!
