Every time that I open a Word document that is stored in one of my folders,
the computer does a virus check. This takes 20 seconds to do.

In addition, closing the document also takes another 20 seconds.

Is ther a way to get this type of unnecessary delay? I have Microsoft XP
and Norton/Symatec antivirus protection.

It's a Norton issue. I know it's been covered *many* times in this forum.
Search the archives - it's there. (I don't use Norton any longer so I can't
walk you thru the steps.)
