MS Word2000 won't spellcheck entire document.

The grammar and spelling feature will not check several sections of a word
text document, while it appears to work correctly in the rest of the
document. In the unchecked sections: when I click on 'spelling and
grammar', a message box reads, "Word cannot find the grammar file
msgr??32.dll fil ." and "Word cannot find the spelling file MSSpell3.dll or
mssp232.dll for ." When I try to call up the thesaurus, nothing happens.

If I type in new text anywhere in the unchecked sections, including the
beginning or end, the new text is not checked. When I cut and pasted
unchecked sections into checked sections, the problem remains. I copied a
large unchecked section into a new Word document and no errors are marked etc.

I installed the most recent security updates. I'm running MS Word2000 on
Windows XP. I've checked and rechecked the options and I've tried detect and
repair.

Have I caused this problem or is this a program bug?

Open the Word document where this occurs. Press Ctrl+A to select
all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set Language |
<choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK, and press F7 to rerun spellcheck. If you are
prompted to save changes to your Normal.dot global template, say yes.

Thank you garfield-n-odie.

Late last night I discovered that it was the language setting that was
preventing spell/grammar checking, after I noticed the language status at in
the tray read "English U.S." in the unaffected areas and "English United
States" in the affected areas.

However, neither the "Detect language automatically" box nor the "Do not
check spelling" box were checked. I fixed the problem by selecting all and
setting the language to "English Canada" (although any language would have
done) and selecting all again and setting the language to "English U.S.".

I believe my settings on Word 2000 might have been changed by adware or a
virus, despite security software. I downloaded the latest security update
for Word2000 after the problem occurred.

I really appreciate your quick and knowledgable response.
