MS Word2003 suddenly locks documents

I have a new MSOffice Pro 2003. It will unexpectedly lock
a Word document. It states that ms document is locked...
I didn't lock it. What's more, tech support cannot unlock
it. It this a "glitch" in this system? The only option is
to unload the entire MS Office program and reinstall it.
You lose many documents and saved materials. Please
HELP... Others must have experienced this.

If you can open the document, but you can't edit it and most of the
menus are grayed out, chances are you have not activated Office thru
Microsoft. Click on Help | Activate Product. If you are already
activated, you'll get a dialog box that says that. If you are not
activated, an activation wizard will start.

I tried what you suggested and it did not work. What is
happening is I can edit things in word pad, I can compose
emails but when I try to create new word doc or even
excel doc the keyboard does no work and all edits
features are gray. I can not edit any existing docs. Any
ideas!! help!!!

What happens in Word when you click on Help | Activate Product?

Sounds like "reduced functionality mode" because your Office 2003 trial
