MS words only opens with Adobe Acrobat

Dear members
After downloading Adobe Acrobat 8; Microsoft words stopped opening in the
proper mannar, to open any M/W document it opens with a dialogue box called
File Conversion box asking to select the encoding to make your document
readable, 1- Windows default 2- M:DOS 3- Other encoding.
I tried three of them what I get in the three options is a set of unreadable
codes, but when I right click on the icon and choose OPEN WITH ADOBE ACROBAT
the document opens in the proper manner, how can get it to open in the
normal manner i.e. to open right away by clickin on it and not by right
clicking and choose Adobe aacrobat.

What you have written is a little confusing. But if I am guessing correctly,
open Word and run the Repair option. I could tell you exactly how if I knew
which version of Word you are using.

I agree with Terry that what you have written is confusing, but ..

Word opens Word Documents
Acrobat opens Acrobat Documents

If you can open your file successfully with Acrobat, it is an Acrobat
document - whatever it is called. If the name ends with .doc (or .docx, or
..docm) then Windows will ask Word to open it, but Word won't be able to - as
you have found. If the name ends with .pdf, and Word is still trying to open
it, then Windows is confused and you need to re-register the pdf extension -
this seems unlikely though, if you've just installed Acrobat.
