Upgrade Eligibility
Determine whether your current version of Microsoft
Office qualifies you for the $239 US upgrade price. The
following products qualify:

From the MS Office website it says:
Elegible XP Office Basic updgrades:
.. Microsoft Works
Works Suite 20061, Works Suite 2004, Works Suite 2003,
Works Suite 2002, Works Suite 2001, Works 2000, Works
8.0, Works 7.0, Works 6.0

I just bought a Toshiba P25-S607 notebook that has MS
Worsk 7.0 pre-installed. I bought the Office XP Basic
Upgrade and now the installation disc is telling me that
it cannot find the elegible version.

What do I do now? I cannot return an open s/w package to
Staples and the MS site lead me to buy this?

Is there a MS phone number where I can talk to someone
about this?

Thanks for all your help!!!

1. The Office website does not say 'Eligible Office XP'
upgrades. It talks about the Office 2003 editions.

2. MS Works is a qualifying product for
MS Office 2003 retail products, but for Office XP
only MS Office 97 and MS Office 2000 are valid
programs for upgrading to Office XP.

3. MS Office 2003 Basic Edition is a new OEM only
(preinstall on new PCs) editions. It is not a retail
package.

4. MS Office retail editions have a 30 day moneyback
guarantee from Microsoft. MS Office OEM edition
return policies would be determined by the PC supplier
that installs them.

5. You can contact Microsoft through (800) 360-7561
in the U.S. or the numbers at http://microsoft.com/worldwide
for other areas.
