MS WorksSuite 2001 issues with Vista

Hi,

Well, being I just bought Vista Business, I wanted to install my MSW
2001 which includes Word 2000. I have a brand new home built PC, and ne
Vista, no $$ to buy new word. "Thinking about OpenOffice though."
Anyway, I run my disc , works suite sets up, everything installs excep
Word2000, error, 1305 Fonts\BRANT.TTF cannot be found on this machine
Therefore, Word exits install.

Ok, I then copied the font itself from XP after installing the Suit
to XP and borrowing the font for Vista. Yep, install is flawless on XP
Now, the font properties are BKANT.TTF, HOWEVER, it keeps gettin
renamed in Vista "don't recall offhand the name but it is a standar
font name, not BKANT.TTF as with XP" which the word 2000 install CANNO
read. I have seen many replies related to CD issues, well, it install
great on ME, XPpro, just not Vista so doubt it's my disc.

Being that it's older, I doubt MS will care or create a fix so waitin
to see if others will or if anyone knows of anyway around this. I mad
the mistake of renaming my fonts folder in XP from Vista, only to fin
it leaves the XP system non-bootable. Easily remedied of course bu
won't do that again. Anyway, any info appreciated.

Thanks,

G

Did that Works Suite disk say anything about installing on a new PC? If so
it is an OEM version and by license restrictions it is improper to install
onto another machine other than the original.

Openoffice is a good free program that will work very similar to Word 2000
and you won't have any compatibility issues.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a pack but not OEM and have installed it
on many of my computers over the last so many years. I would simply
assume it's due to Vista being too new for Word 2000 now, simply
outdated. Although, if not for the font issue would still work.
WorksSuite installed fine, Word 2000 won't. Oh well, looks like it's OO
time. Isn't there a new format like xms or something that Word handles
that OO won't due to patent issues? Heard something about it a while
back. Either way, yah, thanks and I'll go with OO for now.

"new format like xms or something " - not really as your version of Office
wouldn't handle it either. The writers of OO are continually updating the
program to be more compatible with MS Office data files. Even if they don't
have a current version to handle the xms files it probably soon will (I
haven't gone to the OO web site in a while so I don't know what their latest
and greatest is.)

I do know that they have been actively working on the file formats for
Office 2007 but again, don't know if their final product is out that
supports that file format.
