I am trying to setup a security file for a ms access 2000
database to keep one of my users locking up the file while
she is using it. i create the workgroup security file,
then when i reopen the database, it tells me im not
authorized. how do i get access to show a login box?

What workgroup file are you using to access the database? You can find out
about running the Workgroup Administrator ... I believe it's in the Access
Menu under Tools - Security. If you don't find it there, do a file search
for wrkgrpadm.exe. Run the program and find out which workgroup you're
using.

If it's NOT system.mdw, then find and rejoin that group (you may wish to do
a file search to find that also).

Then, if you want to truly secure your database, download and read-read-read
the MS Access Security FAQ. It's the single best source of information
concerning the application of ULS on your database. Make sure to do this on
a COPY of your database
