I am getting similar error messages when starting Office 2007 programs, first
a popup such as: "OUTLOOK.EXE - Bad Image"; with "The application or DLL
C:\Windows\system32\MSCTF.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this
against your installation diskette."
A very similar message occurs when starting other MS Office programs such as
"EXCEL.EXE - Bad Image" and the rest of the message is the same as the
Outlook message.
I also get a message concerning the "CTFMON.EXE". If I go to control panel,
Regional & Language Options > Language, > Details >Advanced and click the
check box to turn off the "Advanced Text Services" the popups stop.
I've run the Office Professional 2007 repair utility but to no avail. It
reports all is good.
SO my question is how do I repair this file or correct this situation. I've
read some threads where people want to turn CTFMON.EXE off but I'm not
interested in that. I'm also not sure what this does exactly other than it
may affect the language bar, handwriting and speech recognition. Every time I
start an Office program I get the popups and they are very annoying.
This started to happen after turning on the computer one morning and having
the utility pop up to verify the hard disk. It didn't report anything,
completed and I was able to start the computer. I do run a mirror C drive,
(Seagate SATA) via Intel Storage Matrix and have another hard disk. The Intel
Storage utility reports all is well. I am guessing that one drive may be
having problems and near failure, but since it hasn't failed, I don't know
which one. I'll probably have to wait for it to fail before I can exchange
it.
Any insight would be appreciated.
