MSDE hangs during setup

On a Win2k machine, MSDE 2000 hangs trying to install from Office 2000 CD
using local server option. All files copy but during configuration, an
infinite hang occurs. I have tried all recommendations from Knowledge Base
such as shutting down non-essential services. Any suggestions?
