msg won't open

i using office XP SP-1 (outlook 2002 sp-1).
We copy emails to our hard drive as msgs that we want to store in specific
locations. msg files dated 2005 will not open for me. Since some of our PCs
recieved new software and/or we got some new PCs near the new year, I suspect
that they were saved from a newer version of outlook.

The error I get when I try to open an msg file is "The messaging interface
has returned an unknown error."...

I can open msgs from Dec2004.

I do believe that .msg files saved from Outlook 2003 cannot be opened in
some cases by Outlook 2002. What happens if, instead of trying to open them
you drag them into Outlook's Inbox?
