MSI admin update for OfficXP_pro SP3 results 860mb directory

Slipstreaming officeXP pro SP3 per
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011525351033.aspx Results in
an 860mb directory and therefore cannot fit on CD. The original office CD
is less than 400mb. Office SP3 is only about 60mb. The patch adds hundreds
of mb to the \FILES\PFILES\COMMON\MSSHARED directory and also the
\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE10 directory where there were only kb on the
original. I've examined closely the options in MSIEXEC /? and the relative
MS support sites and don't see any obvious solution. The MS websites all
refer to updting a network install point but don't mention an administrative
update and reburning the CD. I have slipstreamed the service packs into
Office 2000 and Windows2000 and did not have this problem. Using the syntax
"msiexec /a e:\office10\pro.msi /update e:\officexpsp3\MAINSP3ff.msp
SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE" and also the syntax "msiexec /a e:\office10\pro.msi /p
e:\officexpsp3\MAINSP3ff.msp SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE" have the same result,
after successful completion of MSI installation, then the directory is now
860mb. Does anybody know how to slipstream this patch so it can be reburned
to CD?

Never played with and admin install of office xp. If I can scrounge up the
volume license cds from my licensing coordinator, i'll give it a shot to see
if i come up with the same results. Did the admin install point come up
thru the ranks of RTM > SP1 > SP2 > SP3 or did you just go RTM > SP3?

Thanks for any help. no travelling through ranks or admin install points.
I just copied the customer's original Office XP Pro Retail CD to my hard
drive and followed the procedure that I did with Office 2000 and documented
by MS at the previous mentioned URL.

I think you just mentioned what the problem is, you are trying to slipstream
a service pack to a cached CD copy and not an administrative install point.
I think the best you can do with a cached CD copy is chain the install of
the service pack.
