MSN Sign On Pop-up

Outlook thinks I need to sign in to MSN before I can get
my mail. How do I correct this? No, I don't use ANY MS
email services - hotmail, msmail, etc. Please read the
saga below...

I use Outlook for e-mail, addresses, calendar, etc. I
have Outlook Express on the machine also.

I wanted to be able to get to NewsGroups. I couldn't see
how to get Outlook to check the NewsGroups, but I knew
Outlook Express would do that. So I closed Outlook,
opened up OE and subscrbied to a newsgroup.

Next time I opened Outlook, it asked me if I wanted to
make it my default Newsgroup client. I confirmed that I
would.

Since that time, every time I try to check e-mail with
Outlook, I get the following "Sign In" pop-up:

"Type your MSN ID and password to connect to this internet
site", asking for, what turns out to be, .net passport
information.

This thing pops up at every "Send and Receive" attempt,
whether scheduled or manual. I have to cancel it, press
Send and Receive, at which point the pop-up appears again,
I cancel it again, and my e-mails arrive.

What internet site is it trying to connect to that I need
an MSN passport ID?
