MSO2003: Shortcut bar?

P

Paul Ballou

There is no Shortcut Bar for Office 2003. You can install the office SCB
from a older version of Office or to create a Shortcut Tool Bar for Office
2003 using the Windows task Bar. Create a folder with shortcuts for all
office programs. Right Click On the Task Bar select Toolbars > New Toolbar
and Navigate to the folder containing your Office shortcuts and select it,
click OK. However if you drag the toolbar off the Task Bar and then later
close after using the toolbar you will need to recreate it to use again.

There are some other alternatives as well if you search the news group you
will find some of the other alternatives that are offered. I personally like
perfect menu for it's functionality

I have got the Office XP Shortcut bar working with Office 2003. If you and
any one else is interested I might post the details and files needed on the
net. Post here if you can't find an alternate toolbar and want the Office
shortcut bar instructions.

Hi Karen,

As others have indicated, they removed the OSB in Office 2003. For an
alternative using a Windows toolbar take a look at:

Yes, PLEASE!

I have Office 2003 on my desktop, and would love to have the OXP
Shortcut Bar working, without having to install mucho megs of
unnecessary OXP files and registry settings (that make Office Update
think I need all the OXP updates).

I'm generally familiar with the details and files, but I could benefit
from knowing which registry settings need to be transferred/installed.
(I presume you've gone beyond the "install the SB only from the XP disk"
hooey, to installing only what's necessary and sufficient for the SB to
work by itself.)

I have Office 2003 with the OXP Shortcut Bar installed (the bulky way)
on my laptop, so I have access to anything that I would need to transfer
to my desktop.

I'd be mighty grateful if you'd post the details / instructions to the
list, my e-mail address, or both, or post it on the 'net.

Regards,

Al Heigl

Hi Karen,

I understand that you would like to know whether Office shortcut bar is not
available in Office 2003 and how to get it back. If I have misunderstood
your concern, please let me know.

Based on my research, the Office Shortcut Bar is not available in Microsoft
Office 2003. However, you can use the "Start" menu in Microsoft Windows XP
to start an Office program or to open a file or a folder. Additionally, you
can use the Quick Launch bar in Windows XP or in Microsoft Windows 2000 to
start an Office program or to open a file or a folder.

For more information, please refer to the KB article: 822573 Office
Shortcut Bar Is Not Included in Office 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822573

In addition, I have a workaround for you:

1- Create new Folder (Desktop is easiest place)

2- Create shortcuts for all the things that you wanted to have in toolbar
on desktop (Right click each Icon desired and Select Send To> Desktop)

3- Drag and Drop all of the new desired shortcuts into the new folder
created (naming it relative to the shortcuts)

4- Right click on the task bar and select Toolbars> New Toolbar...

5- Browse to the newly created folder with the shortcuts in it, select it
and click OK

6- The new toolbar will appear on the Taskbar down beside the system tray
on the right with a chevron to click on to open and access the shortcuts

7- If the Taskbar is unlocked (right click and uncheck Lock the Taskbar)
the new toolbar will have a dotted area that will be dragable to the
Desktop off of the Taskbar

{keep in mind to re-lock the Taskbar as the customer had it Locked in the
beginning}

8- The new Toolbar will be dockable to the top or sides as well as back
onto the Taskbar

9- The new Toolbar will be also be resizable and the Icons viewed as large
Icons

10- These Features closely resemble the Office Shortcut Bar features.

Hope it helps.

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao
