MSP 2000 SR-1: Planned Task No Longer Needed

R

R Wood

When updating your schedule, and a planned task is no longer needed,
is there any better option than these:

1. Delete the task - then all planning information is lost

2. Leave the task alone - then it continues to appear in filters of
uncompleted tasks

3. Mark the task completed - then the "effort" attributed to it is
wrong

4. Set work to 0 and mark completed - then the baseline view is
incorrect (shows baseline task as a milestone in the Gantt chart
display)

Rob,

Option four is the best, with one modification. After you set the
Remaining Work to zero, double-click on the task to open the Task
Information dialog box. On the Advanced tab, deselect the checkbox for
"Mark task as milestone". This will keep your baseline information
without showing any false actuals, or a non-existent milestone.
