MSP 2002 and XP SP2 Issues?

R

Randy

We are in the process of rolling out Windows XP SP2 and are wondering if
there are any known issues between SP2 and Project 2002 Pro. A high
percentage of users are having connection problems, timeouts and projects
locking up after receiving SP2. Our support team is working through the new
features trying to find what might be causing the problems but I was hoping
someone has already seen this and could shed some light for us.

Thanks! Randy

Service Pack 2 has a many security updates that can cause problems like
this. Search the Knowledgebase using the keywords "Windows XP2 and Project"

Hi Gary,
we are just trying to use an old version of projectcentral 2000 with
project 2000 on windows2000. Our win2000 clients work fine but our xp
sp2 clients hang.

When you say 'Search the KnowledgeBase', where do you mean? I've
searched www.microsoft.com and could not find a pointer to what we
might need to change in SP2 to get a response out of project central.
(PS. yes, it seems to work on xp SP1 clients just fine...)
Thanks in Advance.

Peter:

It's been almost three years since I used Project Central, but I'm fairly
certain you're dealing with security settings. You need to read all the data
on the service pack to understand the changes it makes to both system
security and the built-in firewall. Have you tried manipulating either of
these? If not, that's the best path to pursue.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the tip....I am pretty sure it is sp2 because it works
between two win2000 sp4 pcs....

The PCs we are using are at the client and they are the first SP2 PCs I
have used....that tells you about how much I know about SP2 so
far...;-)...I'll have to talk to one of the xp experts at the client
and see if they can assist.

Hi All,
as a good group member here is what I found. In internet options
advanced->security in SP2 there are some options such as
1. Check for publishers certificate revocation
2. Check for signature on downloaded programs
3. Check for server certificate revocation.

Some of these are set on so I unset them and then project central would
start again!!!
Hope this helps some other person havnog the same problem.

Hi All,
Having got project central working on normal screen pcs on xp pro sp2 I
decided to go back and have another go on my WUXGA screen. Hope it
helps someone else....this seems to be a problem with a number of web
apps I've used in the few weeks since I got my new laptop...just that
project central was one of the first tools I tried to use....

Well, further digging has shown me where the problem is in the
rendering of the adjusted fonts on my hi-res screen. To be able to see
the screen from within arms length I need to set DPI to 120 under the
screen properties.

When I set the DPI setting for the laptop back to 96DPI rather than 120
DPI I can see everything on project central.....or more correctly,
everything is on the screen but it's so small it's a bit hard to
read...;-).....I've noticed other applications that mix graphics and
text (lots of them) suffer similar problems.

Of course, there has to be a 'next problem'. And in this case it is
when I try to do something like list the users for the database I get
an error message box that says....

A runtime error has occurred. Do you wish to debug? LIke 1735 Error:
Internet Server Error.

I am guessing this is some authorisation error. I am on xp pro SP1. I
see these kinds of errors some times on web sites. I've never found out
what they were. I do have mcafee installed with script detections and
stopping turned on but I turned that off and it just says 'error on
page' rather than giving the popup message box.

Any hints what to look at next most appreciated...would be nice to get
this thing running on my xp laptop.......not essential, but nice none
the less..;-)

Best Regards
Peter Nolan
