MSP 2007 doesn't import Excel 2007 files?

One of our users is having trouble importing Excel 2007 .xlsx files into MSP
2007. Even using Save As to create .xls files from Excel 2007 isn't working
for him.

Is there a fix for this? He's wanting to go back to the 2003 versions of
both programs and we'd like to avoid that if possible.

Ask the user to do the following in Microsoft Project 2007:

1. Click Tools - Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. In the Legacy Formats section, select the "Allow loading files with
legacy or non default file formats" option.
4. Click the OK button.

The default option in the Legacy Formats section does NOT allow a user to
save an MPP file as an Excel file, so that is more than likely the source of
your user's frustration. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale, but I need to clarify: saving the MPP file is not the problem.
The problem is importing the Excel file into Project. The .xlsx file format
isn't an option and when he uses "save as" .xls so Project will import it,
the fields aren't imported correctly. I verified he's running Office 2007
SP2.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again.

Nope, I'm fresh out of ideas. Perhaps someone else has a thought. Sorry I
can't be more help.
