msp file missing from previous updates

Buck

I recently had to do a system restore on windows XP with out knowing that I
would loose the MSP file. Now when I check for up dates I get this message
(Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office
updates are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your
computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation
completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If
the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may
also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem.)
I am unable to repair or uninstall office 2003. Any Ideas on how do to fix
this mess? Should I do a restore back to a date before I installed office
2003 and if so will it create more problems?

Hi Buck,

You can use the MS Windows Installer cleanup utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301&FR=1
to remove the registry entries for Office 2003 then reinstall
Office if the steps here aren't workable.

Hi Bob

I uesd the MS Windows Installer cleanup utility and was able to reinstall
Office. But check for updates still doesn't work. So I tried How to
troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the Office
Update website:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304498. I did all
of the methods execpt for (Method 10: Perform a clean boot on your computer,
based on your operating system). every thing either checked out ok or the
changes I made didn't work. So I guess I will manualy download the updates.
If You have any other ideas please let me know. Thanks for your help, it
was greatly appreciated.

Buck
