MSP server and Linux

Guidho

We are running MS Project Server 2003 and additional to our windows pc's, we
want to open the Web Interface of MS Project on Linux pc's.
But we can't get this to work. When we try to connect to Project server in
Linux (using mozilla), the server page doesn't load. A ieneeded.aspx page is
loaded instead.
This is probably because Linux doesn't authenticate against the Actice
Directory.

Is it possible to access the web interface of MSP server using Linux?

Any help is appreciated!

Thx!

Guidho:

You're biggest problem here is that Linux doesn't support ActiveX, an
essential to the functionality of the web interface. You'll need to provide
your Linux, Mac and other OS users with a remote desktop connection through
Terminal Services or Citrix.

I managed to access Project Server from a Linux Machine.

I used Codeweaver Crossover Office to be able to install Internet
Explorer on Linux (for the Active X components).
Using IE I can accees Project Server. But it runs with errors... I can
login but when loading the tasks page, IE quits without an error.

I don't know if this is a good or best practice.

I still need to try the remote desktop connection through TS or Citrix.

In the meantime, any help is still appeciated.

Your approach of using Codeweaver is good, but Codeweaver not a perfect
representation of the Windows desktop environment, esp. for something as
complex as Active X controls. VMWare might work better?

I used to use Win4Lin on Linux to run Project 98 with great success. Ran
better than on top of native Windows. Maybe contemporary versios of
Win4Lin will work with the web components of Project Server.

I've not tried Linux desktop access to Project Server components. If I
wer doing it, I'd try using rdesktop (which is provided in most Linux
distributions) to connect to a terminal server or even just another
networked XP box that the Linux users share one at a time. I use
rdesktop all the time doing other things and works great.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
