MSProject 2010 not honouring dependencies?

I'm trying the 2010 beta, and very nice it is too - I LOVE the team planner
view.

However, I'm having trouble with it not seeming to honour dependencies
between roll-ups.

I have some work that I want to happen in two phases, and so have a roll-up
with the tasks in the first phase, linked to the roll-up with tasks in the
second pahase by a FS dependency.

In MSP 2007, when levelling, it would nicely put everything in the second
phase after the first one (using ID only levlling).

But in 2010 it's scheduled the work in the second phase before the end oif
the first one. Those tasks are pretty fragmented too.
It looks like it's trying to assign that resource to spare time in the first
phase.

Any clues?

I am not able to reproduce your behavior. If your tasks are truly linked
Phase 1/Phase 2 then you should not be getting behavior where any of the
Phase 2 tasks move to the left of the Phase 2 start.

Something to look at:
1. Are you using manual schedule mode?
2. Have you keyed any dates?
3. Are you clearing leveling before doing the next manual level (it's a
check box).
4. Might you have resources assigned to summary tasks?

Now if I may pontificate --
It is not a best practice to link summary tasks. Far better to have Phase 1
and Phase 2 as summary tasks (as you do). Create some milestones: Phase 1
complete. Make sure your Phase 1 tasks have a path of precessors/successors
that link you down to the Phase1 complete milestone. Link the first subtask
of Phase 2 to the Phase 1 complete milestone. I assume the Phase 2 subtasks
will daisy chain from there.

Linking summary tasks can confuse the schedule and create circular
references. In general, not at all a good idea.

Can you please recheck your "Leveling options" under Resource tab. By
default, the leveling order is Standard and not ID, and "Leveling can
adjust individual assignments" has been checked.
