MSProject Files - A mind of their own - Help Please!

I have set up a number of programmes in MS Project (2007 SP1). I save them
all in MS Project 2000-2003 (.mpp) format so other users with earlier
versions can use them. Most are relatively basic with a few dependencies but
I am finding that I'm getting problems when opening saved projects.

For some reason, when I open a project that was structured as I wanted it, I
find that some of the task names are often randomly blank and frequently the
task list is re-sequenced and no longer bears any resemblance to that I had
saved. This includes the task numbers themselves. I find that sub-tasks have
been re-organised (disorganised!) and everything is up the creek.

Has anyone come across this problem or maybe knows how to prevent it as it's
driving me mad and causing me to work extremely inefficiently as I am forced
to go back and repair my programmes every time this happens.

Many thanks all.

Kind regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Do you use Norton Anti-virus? If so, try disabling Office Plug-in.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

I had the same problem, but it went away once I installed SP1. Two
suggestions: 1) maybe your install of SP1 wasn't clean, and you could re-try
it; 2) I noticed that if I always used "save as", the problem didn't occur.
This requires more explanation: if I did a "save as 2003", did some changes,
and then did a simple "save", the schedule got scrambled; if I did a "save as
2003", did some changes, and then again did a "save as 2003" (under the same
name), it did not get scrambled. That helped me avoid the problem until I
got SP1 installed.
