MSProject.Project98 field in an old Access 97 database

I came across an old Access 97 database we used to use where one of the
fields was called "gantt", was an OLE Object data type and in each row it
said MSProject.Project98.

When this field is shown on a form a small part of a Project time line is
shown, even though I don't have Project on this PC.

I would like to do something like this in a newer database, somehow
interpret data in the database and put it in some kind of MS Project or
Schedule view.

How is/was this done? Does it require cutting and pasting from Project, or
can it create timelines on the fly? Do I need Project? Do the users need
Project?

Thanks,
Mich
