MSPS 2007 - Would Like RM Group to See All Project (Read Only) in

T

How can I configure the resource manager group to see all projects on the
server and the one's they don't own as read-only (preferably) in Project Pro?

I already have them setup to see all projects in PWA but am having
difficulty giving them the same view authority in Projet Pro. I have not yet
changed the default settings for resource managers.

Thank you!

Help me understand your issue better. Are your RM's actually PM's ? If
not, why do they need access through Proj Pro ?

Good question... And making them PM's would make things easier. Below are a
few reasons why I am setting them up as PM's and not RM's:

1) They manage some smaller, more fluid plans for things like defects,
customer service issues, and other non-project work. Lots of quick
turnaround.
2) I have created a series of views in a resource management plan. It does
not contain any activities but group by's for the Resource Usage view for all
resources in our pool, not just the ones in a specific project plan. They
were easy to create and the RM's and PM's really like the ease of use (vs.
PWA) for looking at many resources at the same time.

Hi Tim, here's how you do it.

1. Create a new Category called See All Project (Read Only).
For this category, select the radio button to for All Current and Future
Projects.
2. Open the RM Group, and assign the category to this group.
For the Category permissions, check the Allow check box to Open Projects,
but leave the check box to save them unchecked (for both allow and deny).

This way, RMs can open all projects, but not save them, effecitively giving
them read only.

The RM group will need the Log on to Project via Project Professional as
well which I believe is a global permission you must enable on the RM group
level.

Also to deny "Edit Project Properties" which prevents editing under
PWA.

I very much thank you all for the responses!

Ben - I applied your suggestions and it worked like a charm!

Jonathan - Good point on making sure the RM group has access to Log on to
Project Professional. In my case, this was a default already setup when we
installed MSPS 2007.

Ravi - Good point. I changed the See All Projects (Read-only) category to
deny Edit Project Properties.

Thank you again!
