MSPS2003 & WSS email address

When installing and configuring ProjectServer2003 and associated Windows
sharepoint services, it often asks for an administrator or site owner
(domain\user-id) and also an email address to be entered.

Where ever possible we use a 'generic' windows account we've set up for EPM
use. We also have entered the same email address throughout....(it's almost
always a required field).

How is the email address used?

Apparently neither MSPS or WSS verifies the address in any way because the
one we use does not exist.

Any reasonable explanation appreciated.

Hi Mark,

The email account that you entered when installing SharePoint or Project
Server will be used for sending Project Server Notifications, Reminders,
and possibly SharePoint Alerts.

My suggestion is that you use a *valid* email account of the
ProjectServer/SharePoint Administrator. You could also use an email
address of a distribution list, or setup an email alias.

But putting in an email address of "(e-mail address removed)" would not be a good
thing <g>
