MSVCR80.DLL

The Imposter

Hi,
I'm running an ACER Desktop with Vista SP1 and Office Enterprise 2007
installed. Excel & Word work fine, but when I try to run Outlook I get the
message "MSVCR80.DLL is missing". So far I've uninstalled all ACER software
and the Norton bloatware that came pre-installed. I've replaced the Norton
anti-virus with AVG. I've enabled/disabled add-ins in Outlook, moved and
replaced Manifest files and re-installed MS Office. I still get the error
message and Outlook refuses to run. Any ideas ?

I've heard that this problem is generated by the fingerprint Acer
eDataSecurity add-in for outlook.

Disable the add-in by editing the registry:

1. open the regsitry editor
2. got key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\
3. Locate the add-in
4. set the LoadBehavior to 0

Please note that whenever you make a change to the registry, you should back
it up first.

Please let me know if that works for you. If not, there could be other
solutions.

Reportedly, this error is generated by Norton.
Uninstalling Norton from Add/Remove programs does not remove all of Norton.
To correct this error uninstall Norton as per their uninstall tool

Hi, I've uninstalled all Acer software - the only add-ins I can see in the
registry at the address you gave appear to be Microsoft ones. I've also
visited the Norton website and used their uninstall tool to make sure that
everything has been removed. I'm still getting the error message. Any more
suggestions ?

Symantec recommends that you update to SystemWorks 2008 to fix MSVCR80.DLL
problem. See here for details:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/supp...e=public_web&docurl=20080512162653EN&ln=en_US

If you decide to run the Norton Removal tool before you update SystemWorks,
here is the reference to it:
http://service1.symantec.com/Suppor...2039?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=za&seg=hho&src=hot

The Removal Tool suggests to restart the computer, then directs you to a web
page. But, once the old Systemworks is removed (Antivirus included), you may
not want to reconnect to the Net without Antivirus installed. Here is the web
page that you are directed to after restart and helps you install SystemWorks
2008:

Hope this helps a few people,
Jim:)
