MSWORD 2003 LOCK UP

I just got a new DELL laptop, and it came with MS OFFICE 2003. It
worked well for the first month, but now every time i try to open i
document with word, it locks up and says "not responding". To be more
specific, I open MSWORD, File > Open, and when i go to folder bar to
choose another folder to look it, it locks up and i have to restart
the program. Any one else had this problem?
