I double click on an MSWord Document. This opens the MSWord application but
not the document... why?

Students use WinXP.
Server is 2003.

You might want to try rebuilding the file associations for Word. Go to
Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

If this is doing this is a network-wide problem, it is unlikely to be a Word
problem. Does it work OK if you open Word and then use File, Open? Are the
documents located on a local HDD or on the server? Is this a problem you
have always had? Are you using Norton Anti Virus? Are the workstations
loaded across the network from an Image that may be bad? Have you installed
something recently that has started this problem?

It is network-wide but not every user.

Does it work OK if you open Word and then use File, Open?
Yes.

Are the documents located on a local HDD or on the server? Server

Is this a problem you have always had? No. It just seems to be more prevalent.

Are you using Norton Anti Virus? McAFee

Are the workstations loaded across the network from an Image that may be
bad? They were loaded from an image. I didn't do it. I don't know how to
tell if it was bad.

Have you installed something recently that has started this problem? Not
that I know of. We have a batch file that was made for us that deletes and
recreates users every quarter and sets the password.

Check to make sure this isn't corrupt Profiles. Get a user that cannot open
documents to swap workstations with a User that can open documents. Make
them log into the other's workstation with their own log-ins and see if the
problem moves with the user profile and not the workstation.
