MSWord; synonym right mouse click does not always work

I check for synonyms frequently by using the right mouse click over a word.
However, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Can't figure out why!
Any ideas?

Define "doesn't work." It may be that there are no synonyms, or it may be
that you are in a context where the context menu doesn't include the
Synonyms (Thesaurus) entry.
