MSWorks Word Processor

S

Steven Holt

My new Compaq PC always wants to open my word documents
with Corel Word Perfect, which is only a 30-day trial
package. I want to work with MS Word. I can open the
document with MS Works Word Processor but then I save it,
it only saves as .wps. Now, when I attach it as an e-
mail attachment, no one can open it under normal MS
Word. How can I fix this issue??

Also, the toolbar doesn't support the page numbering
option. I have to manually inset the page numbers myself
after aligning the last line, centering, etc. It will
consequetively number the pages after I do this. I tried
using the footer/header program with "number pages", but
it only puts in the number wherever my cursor is, same
thing.

I need help cuz I'm a writer and have deadlines!!!

THANKS!
Steve

Hi Steven,

Do you have Word installed on the computer?

If so, start Word and then use File>Open to open the documents.

If you have Word installed, see the article "How to re-register Word when
problems crop up opening files. Word files do not open in the desired
version of Word when you double-click them in Windows Explorer, or when
opening them from the Desktop or Explorer, a series of messages appear
claiming that the file cannot be opened." at:

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm

It won't help if Word is not installed though.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

The Works word processor is not Word. You can save from Works to RTF format,
which can be opened by Word users, or you can very reasonably upgrade to
Works Suite, which contains a full version of Word. I'd suggest waiting
until you can get Works Suite with Word 2003--might as well be as up-to-date
as possible!
