Much like a library check out system

Is there a simple template for checking in and checking out (quipment) much
like a library book? I don't need anything complicated just the ability to
check out, check in and put on hold for future use.

I know nothing about how to do this but I just don't think it is rocket
surgery.

Why not just use a simple spreadsheet or table? Equipment, person borrowing,
date out, date in.
