Mulitple Rates for Individual Resources?

A

Al Wallace

Hi! We're using a shared resource pool for our planning and scheduling, but
have run into a bit of a challenge. Depending on the project, individuals'
billing rates differ. Is there a way to define multiple billing rates for
individuals based on the projects they're working, e.g., for Project A,
Person X has a billable rate of $100/hr, but for Project B, Person X has a
rate of $150/hr. We do NOT want to represent Person X as 2 (different)
resources, as it defeats the purpose of having a shared resource pool.

Thoughts?

Hi,

When connecting files to the pool, select "Sharer takes precedence"; dat in
the individual files (such as costing data) will take precedence over Pool
data.
When the connection is already made, in the Pool go to Tools, Share
Resources, select the file(s) and click Sharer takes precedence.

Are you talking about rates you bill a client for the resource's work will
vary from project to projet or are you talking about a resource who gets
paid by you different rates depending on the job he is doing for you? If
it's the latter, look at the multiple rate tables available under the
Resource Information view you get when double clicking on the resource id
number in the resource sheet. If it's the former you've got more of a
problem as Project is designed to estimate and track your direct costs of
getting the work done, NOT tracking your client billings and the revenues
coming from them for doing the project. That's what you have accounting and
time-and-billing software for and to be honest, almost any solution within
project is a kludge at best.
