Multi-Column report

Microsoft news

I am working on a report that I would like to have 3 columns to save space.
I can get it 3 columns, but the Group header is also three columns. I tried
to do a sub-report in the detail section and since the report is long and
takes a lot of time to run after 25 minutes the sub-report attempt hadn't
finished. I am getting something like this.

Group Header 1 detail2 GroupHeader 4
detail 1 detail3 detail1
detail 2 detail2
GroupHeader3
Group Header 2 detail1
detail1 detail2

And I want something like this

Group Header1
Detail1 detail3 detail5
Detail2 detail4

Group Header2
detail1 detail3
detail2

Any help is appreciated.

Yes I did, but the query that runs takes about 3 minutes to run. When I
switch it to a subreport that query has to run once for each detail section
(~50 times) and the report never finishes (at least in a 15-20 minute time
frame).

Thanks for the reply, Bill

OK, progress is being made. I removed the [Page] of [Pages] and it runs
decently now. I am having some formatting issues now. When I run the
sub-report it shows up as a 3 column report, but now when it is a
sub-report. So I get one record then a huge space (I am guessing because of
the size of the Detail section in the main report) then another record all
in one column. This is my first foray into Multi-Column reports and I
appreciate your timely response Duane.

Do you have a control that displays [Page] of [Pages]? If so, try remove
it.
Are the fields used in your Link Master/Child properties indexed in their
respective tables?

You are getting closer. My first reply suggested "Your subreport would most
easily
display across then down". Attempting to get a subreport to display down
then across will result in one long column since subreports don't have a clue
regarding pages or bottoms of pages.

If you absolutely can't live with "across then down" do a google search on
Access Reports and down then across. If you absolutely can't find a solution,
then come back.

Did you try with only the Group Header values in the main report and a
multiple column subreport with the details? Your subreport would most
easily
display across then down.
