Word 2000's TOC features appear to be very useful for easily creating
and maintaining a web page that has hyperlinks to various sections on
the page, and even partial TOCs within different sections, etc.
I have a situation where there are many short TOC entries in some
cases. In HTML format, these appear as one hyperlink per line. Is
there a straightforward way to make them appear as multiple columns in
HTML format?
I know that I can unlink (Ctrl+Shift+F9) the TOC entries and use
"Convert Text to Table" to convert them into a multiple-column table.
However, the unlinking (of course) removes the hyperlinks.
I'm guessing that a macro could come to the rescue, but I frankly
haven't attempted to write one before, so there would be a learning
curve there. Another way, of course, is to just maintain such a table
"manually", by creating hyperlinks to bookmarks, etc., but then I'm
stuck with maintenance that I'd like to avoid.
Anyone ever crack this nut already (e.g., a macro you'd care to
share)? Otherwise, if someone could just please confirm that my
assessment of the situation is correct, then I'll just have to make a
decision on this. Thanks.
