Microsoft Word does not really have what we would consider as a "default"
font.
It does have a default font for the Normal style, which is replicated to
many other styles in a default document.
But what you really need is the ability to set a default font, and Word
doesn't have such a concept, let alone the ability to set two of them, one
for a different language.
If you set Word>Preferences>Match font with keyboard on, Word will attempt
to switch fonts if you switch to a Chinese keyboard. Unfortunately, there
are several bugs in the mechanism so we strongly recommend you don't use it.
It seems incapable of switching the font BACK, and frequently leads to weird
document corruptions.
What you COULD do is create two sets of Styles, one for use in Chinese, the
other for English. If you switch styles, Word will reliably switch fonts.
When you make Chinese styles, be sure to specify both the font you want to
use, and a Language of Chinese, otherwise the spelling and grammar checkers
will malfunction.
Hope this helps
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) I understand how to
set the default font on Normal Template for roman characters (English), but
how do I set the default font for traditional Chinese characters. I toggle
between the two languages in my document.
