Multi User read only

F

Frank

We are networked (crossover cable) using Access 2000 and
trying to share the one database. When we try to open the
database on the workstation (B) we get read only mode.
Have set the options to shared. Where are we going wrong?

With thanks

I am not sure about peer-to-peer networking but for normal networking, you
would need to assign proper permission. Generally, you need Read / Write /
Create & Delete permission on the directory and Read / Write permission on
the MDB file. The reason for the Create / Delete permission is that the
"remote" user needs to be able to create / delete the LDB file. If the
"remote" user does not have this permission, he can only open the database
in Read-Only mode regardless of the Write permission on the database file.

I don't know. I mainly use Windows 2K servers and never used peer-to-peer
networking.

Since this is a Windows question, you should perhaps post the question on
permission in a peer-to-peer networking arrangement to one of the
appropriate Windows newsgroups.
