Multi-user - WAN vs LAN

I have an application that I am distributing, it consists
of 2 ACCESS databases, one a compiled (.mde) database
which is the actual application and one which is the
users's data (.mdb). The idea being that the .mde resides
on each person's machine that will be working in the
system and the data being on a network drive that all have
access to. This setup seems to be working pretty well with
up to 10 users in a LAN situation. I have a potential
client that says they are in a WAN (he used the
term 'Active Directory') situation. My question is, should
I expect ACCESS to behave any differntly for this client
than I have experienced with others so far and why?

Thanks,

Ray Z

Well, often the problem with WAN is that they are often much slower.

100 times slower.

So, as always, you should specify that your software needs a 100 mbit
connection (a standard office network is 100 base T).

Also, a wan can be subject to more disruptions, and ms-access does NOT take
lightly to this.

some caution and warnings need to be mentioned. #1, you need to find out the
speed of the system.

For a WAN, I generally don't recommend a file share such as ms-access. You
can use thin client technology (windows terminal server), or even consider
sql server.

Hi Ray,

My question is not related to yours, since I am running
into problems creating .mde file, thought of checking with
you, hope you don't mind.

When I try to create .mde file, I get error
'Microsoft was unable to create mde database'.
I looked at the solutions provided in knowledgebase,
but its not applicable in my case.

Can you shed some light on this error if you encountered
any time and how you resolved it.

Thank you,
-prn
