Multiple alerts

A user recieves multiple alerts even when he only has one new email. The
email sound will play multiple times in quick succession usually two or three
times. This behavior only started a few weeks ago. Is there anyway to
prevent this?

Type of account?
Check his/her rules to see if there isn't a rule configured as well to play
sounds.

The account is microsoft exchange
outlook 2003
I will take a look at his rules
