Multiple contextual menus!

Since I went from Mac OS 10.3 to 10.4, whenever I use the right-click
to access the contextual menus (say to align a cell) in Excel, I see an
extra set of options - ie Excel is duplicating all the menu options
each time I use it! I have to scroll down a long list and use the
bottomset of options for anything to work. This resets if I quit and
restart. I have Office X. I have trashed the prefs but no improvement.

With XL closed, delete the

~:Libraryreference:Microsoft:Excel Toolbars (10)

file (where ~ is your home directory).

I'm a bit confused... You say this occurs "whenever (you) use the
right-click to access the contextual menus", but not "if (you) quit and
restart." So when does the behavior come back?

XL sessions are independent of each other - the only link is through
preferences - so simply restarting shouldn't change the behavior unless
it changes the preferences, which should then stay changed.

Does this occur only after opening a particular workbook? If so does
that workbook have macros?

Do you have any add-ins loading? Any items in your

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office <X/2004>:Office:Startup:Excel

folder?

contextual menu items I have to scroll down after two or three uses of
the right-click! It is always only the bottom set of options that
works, so I get fed up scrolling down as you might imagine.

Sounds to me like Excel's preferences and/or toolbar files can not be
properly written. Make sure you have repaired permissions. Also make sure
you CLOSE Excel and then trash the files cybertaz indicated in a prior
message. Then repair permissions, It wouldn't hurt to empty the trash, and
restart before restarting Excel.

OK done all that. No change. I may try a reinstall next. Thanks.

Hi Roger -
Sorry nothing has worked so far, but keep in mind that reinstalling Mac
applications _rarely_ produces a permanent fix - if any at all. Especially
true if you simply reinstall over the existing software, as the new
installation will continue to use certain files from the previous
installation.

If you're convinced that reinstallation is necessary it will most likely be
productive only if you use the Remove Office uninstaller.
