Multiple copies of one email

Starting a day ago I have now recieved more than 40 copies of one email.
I have outlook 2003 (as part of the small business office edition) and my
ISP is yahoo business mail. I also have Norton Anti Virus which is set to
scan incoming mail.

When I check on-line (on the server) there is only one copy of this email

I have read through the various posts on related question but I am still
unclear what I can do about this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is this the only account configured in Outlook? Does it happen for all your
new e-mails or just this one? Disable your incoming mail virusscan. If
Norton acts like a proxy it could be blocking Outlook from "remembering"
that it has already donwloaded that e-mail.

This is the only account configured for outlook and it has only happened with
one email. When you say disable the incomijng mail virusscan do you mean
temprarily or turn it off?

You can safely turn it of. Outlook 2003 doesn't allow code execution and
automatic running of any attachment. It even blocks access to filetypes that
could contain a virus. Even when you accidentally unblock those filetypes
and try to open one your on-access scanner will kick in.

Anyway, since we are talking about a single mailitem it could be damaged in
some way. Just remove this one manually from the server and see if the issue
stays away.
