Multiple downloads of same message

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop Hi

Every 10 days or so Entourage decides to download every single message off my POP mail server (about 9000 messages), even though I already have at least 5 copies of the same message in my inbox (which as a result currently has about 40,000 messages in it!).

I don't want to delete my old messages from the server, because I am prone to losing my computers, and prefer to keep the old messages stored online.

I've checked my rules,and mailing list manager, and theres no problems there.

I have now set up a rule to instantly trash all of these messages, but it is only a temporary fix.

Can anyone help on this one???? I'm close to saying bye bye to Entourage and hello to Macmail again!

Same problem--I have typically found 800-1400 messages in my inbox, repeating the last several weeks over and over and over (and over.) Deleting each message from the server is impossible with 14oo messages, as there is no option to batch delete from server under Messages. How do I stop the repetitive downloading process?

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

I am using a IMAP account with Entourage 2008 version 12.2.4 (1002050)and randomly my Inbox is cleared and all messages are downloaded again (approx 3000).

I flag messages as todo regularly. The thing which is notable is that after all messages are downloaded again that todo flags are set to a few days back. I have to go through all my flaged messages and clear the flags.

There are a lot of posts found in forums about the problem that entourage downloads messages again. The answer to use a script to delete duplicate messages solves a problem, but i think what everybody is looking for is an answer on what causes this and what actions can or are being taken to solve this bug.

this bug.

Usually this happens when the server is rebooted for some reason. When this
happens all emails are given a different ID. Entourage sees the new IDs as
not being download so Entourage downloads again.

Not all IMAP providers provide the same performance. Who is your IMAP
provider?
