I've got a user who has daily problems with WordXP locking
up. When the machine locks-up, the processor is maxed at
100% with the winword.exe process taking up 99% of
capacity.
The odd part is that whenever this happens, there are two
icons for each open document in the Task Manager /
Applications screen. One icon is a normal size "w" and
the other is a large "W". I have yet to find what these
dual icons represent. Once one of the documents is forced
to close, the winword process halts, and everything
returns to normal.
The problem can not be duplicated on any other machine in
the office and I have not been able to force the problem
to occur on the user's machine either.
Does anyone have any clues as to what might cause this?
The suspect system is a Dell Lattitude with 640megs of
memory, Windows XP Pro SP1, Office XP SP3, PIII 1 ghz.
Thanks,
Dave
