Multiple Instances - Common Resource Pool

Hello everyone.

I have created multiple instances of PWA in Project Server 2007 but my
resource pool is common across the instances of PWA. If I allocate a resource
to a project plan from one instance of PWA his availability will not be
blocked in the other instance. So the data is not constient.

Is it possible to have common resource pool but multiple instance of Project
Web Access?

I'm using different Data Bases for each instance. Should I have only one?
How do I do it?What's the impact of unifying the existing DB's?

Thanks for your help.

He Sebastian.

Each PWA instance has its own Resource Pool. One does not have anything to
so with the other. Thats the functionality. You dont have an overarching
resource pool accross the instances ( would be cool if it would, or if you
would have the option to make it so).

The only way around this is to create reports (using the Reporting DB's)
accross these instances.

Hope this helps

or you can code a custom sync mechanism across instance but it would require
a lot of work...

Hi guys.

Thanks for your response. Let me see if I got the point: due to the current
functionality and design of Project Server it's not possible to create a
single PWA view wich consolidates the assignments that a recourse has on
several instances, right?

But let me ask you something:

MARC: the reports you talk about are visual reports? how can I create them?

CRISTOPHE: the sync mechanism would allow me to create a view as needed?

Thanks!

Hi Sebastian,

Since you have the reporting db for all PWA instances, you can create an
overall resource report given that the resources are the same. You will need
to find the unique identifier per resource (e.g. windows account) and then
you can create the overall report.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much Marc and Cristophe.

I'll try to apply your suggestions. See you!

Sebastian:

My $.02 is that you likely need to be running one instance here. The most
deterministic definition of an "instance" is its resource pool. It seems to
me that you may need a better approach to your requirements analysis and
configuration design rather than spending a lot of time and resources on
building a custom solution. Try to keep it as simple as possible.
