I have five instances of ACT! in my Word 2003 menu bar.
Also, Normal.dot asks if I want to save changes every time I close.
EEEeeeek!
Please advise, thank you!

Hi,
Sorry if this is posted improperly..My first time here...

I have just Upgraded a laptop from Win98 that used Act 5.0 and Word 2000
to a Laptop that came with WinXP Pro and Office 2003 with Word 2003 and I
kept the Act 5.0 on it.

Now of course Act 5.0 won't recognize the Word 2003.
I found the Act 5.04 update and installed it but it allows Word 97-2000 and XP
I assume that means Word XP (if there is such a thing)

My Question is ...Is there a way to let Act 5.04 use Word 2003 as the word
processor?

I will also try to post this question to the current owners of ACT.
Whomever that is at this time.

Thanks in advance.

Really more of an ACT! issue than a Word issue but after a quick
Google search, I came across the following:

"If you are using Microsoft Word 2003, you must have installed the
Hotfix for Word 2003 and have updated your ACT! software to the 6.0.3
build. Microsoft Word 2003, will only integrate with ACT! 6.0.3 after
you have installed the hotfix. Microsoft Word 2003 will not function
with earlier versions of ACT!."

Now, what I don't know is what is involved in the upgrade, if it costs
anything, where to obtain the hotfix etc. So at this point you may
want to go to www.act.com and see if you can obtain what you need
there.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Act! used Word and WordPerfect as optional 'report writer' and 'mailmerge' choices to its own built in word processor, to take
advantage of more advanced layout and formatting features of those programs. To do this it used an add-in with Wordbasic macros,
written mainly for Word v6 (1993) and basically tweaked by the folks who owned Act! for use in later versions of Act! and Word and
with Act! 5/2000 they dropped WordPerfect connectivity.

Some changes in Word 2003 reached the point where there would have been probably a rewrite of the interface between the two programs
and the macros by Act! to make it still work reliably. Act! itself was rewritten for versions 6 and Version 7 and Act! now uses, if
I recall correctly, a SQL database and new interface. With Act! 5 (2000) you can still use Act!'s features in its Word processors,
or output Act data that you want to merge into comma/tab delimited data files then, on your own, setup Word mailmerge documents and
use that data for mailmerge/report creation.

I did see a 3rd party add in for Act! 5 that would do a workaround to get things to Word 2003, but with Act! 6/7 coming out it seems
to have gone.
