Can track track multiple labour and equipment resouces such as:
multiple labour resources ie, riggers, labourers, tubewelders,
pipewelders, fitters etc.
Similarly for multiple equipment resources ie, plasma cutters mig
welders, arc welders, tig welders, tube end pre tools etc.

Do I need to make a resource column for each trade/equipment that I
want to track.

Thanks for your help.

Add them to the Resource list in a "row". Menu: View/Resource List.

Read more about Resources in Project's Help.

Hi

Each resource has to be tracked separately and you may create the list of
resources in View > Resource sheet.

I hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies.

I have added both personal and equipment in the resource column.

Can I split them into 2 columns, one for personal and the other for
equipmnt, will this flow thru to the resource sheets for either
categories.

Hi

For categorising resources into personal and equipment use the feature
'Group'.

For each resource categorise it as 'personal' or 'equipment' in the Group
column. Then in reports you may get reports for each group separately. Also,
in any resource view you may insert 'Group' column to view this information
of resources.

I hope it helps.

SloopJohn,

See Vanita's reply on this. I agree.

I also sense that you may be thinking of Project as if it is like Excel.

It is not.

Project is a calculation engine. What you see when you use Project is a
front-end user interface (rows, columns, views, tables, Gantt Charts,
etc.) which sits on top of a complex database structure (for Tasks,
Resources, Assignements, etc.). Project takes what you describe is the
project from the user-interface and then it uses the data in the data
base and complex algorithms to compute and present the schedule for you.

The best way to have success with Project is to focus on understanding
how it wants to work and then you work it that way.

Hence for you, Project wants to think of resources as list of "things"
each with their own properties which you can described, e.g. Name, Full
Name, billing rate, and "type (the source of our question).

Thanks Rob

Your explaination helps, I was thinking more as a excel instead of a
access data base program.

I have found the "Resources" - "Group" dialogue box now things are
falling in to place.

SloopJohnB,

Cool. Also look for the way to assign a resource to a Group in the group
column in Resource Sheet (Menu: View/Resource Sheet).

I can't think what you mean by "Group" dialogue box. The Group is just
a descriptive property of a resource. It says what group the resource
is in, e.g. "Accounting", "Stakeholder", etc. I find use for that field
when Grouping on Groups (Menu: Project/Group By/Resource Group). Note
that Grouping By is not (despite use of same word) the same as Resource
Group.
