Multiple masters PPT2003

We have just created a .pot with ONE cover master and SEVEN slide
masters that differ only by a small piece of clipart in the top right-
hand corner.

The result is a 472KB master that is very easy to distribute but ...
means that the simplest slide with just a title weighs in at ..
476KB.

The alternative is SEVEN .pot files each with ONE title master and ONE
slide master weighing 125kb. Clearly this is much more difficult to
distribute (and to get people to use correctly). I suspect that as
soon as someone mixes two presentations then it will have TWO slide
masters.

Can anyone suggest a simple way of managing this problem?

In fact we made special efforts to ensure that the components used in
the master were the right size for the PPT slide. I ran the master
through NXPowerlite and only got a 2% redcution so I thing that the
construction is close to optimal.

Current thinking is to have just one master in a file labeled
'blank.pot' (118kb) and the other six masters in another .pot. At
least this way if someone makes a single page the file will not be
weighed down by the unused masters.

The only other thing we could do is to substitute the JPG background
for a GIF.
