Multiple My Tasks groups in the My Tasks page (tasksp.aspx)

Vaso Vukovic

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue before and what could be
the solution.

Since our regular monthly reboot last week, we experienced a few odd
behaviours on the tasks.aspx. few users get 'My Tasks [1]' and 'My tasks [2]'
under "My Timephased Assignments" view (tasks.aspx). the tasks contained
within the those two groups are exactly the same but fgor some reason grouped
twice. There does not seem to be any obvious reason why this would occur
(nothing in windows logs or ULS comes up under those user ids). Users are not
local admins or PWA admins, just 'regular Team Members'.
If I try to view my tasks on their machine (n fact same instance of IE, if I
sign in with my user id), the view goes back to normal. When they sign in, it
gets grouped again. So it seems like it is based on the user id / resource
level..

Any ideas??

configs:
Server: MOSS farm 2007 with PS2007 SP + SP1 + Dec '08 CU.
Client: IE6, MS Project 2007 SP1 + SP1 + Dec CU.
LAN attached in AD all domain members, Auth: Kerberos.

I too have this exact issue, hoping someone will know the resolution. I
looked at the resources that have this issue and only anamoly I can see is
Team Members have this problems and Team Leads and higer do not have this
issue.

btw, you know that you can get the user to 'modify web part' then they can
remove the duplicate component and exit save mode.. It's just that I want to
get the issue fixed in such a way so that users themself don't need to do
this.. I've seen this issue was lingering on the net back in aug-oct 2008 but
no thread anywhere mentions any 'system-wide' or admin base solution,
everyone seems to have got used to this idea that users have to fix the vie
wthemself.. it also frustrates me that nobody seems to know WHY did this
occur in the first place?

I don't believe we do. I know that there is a particular order in which
services are stopped and so on but don't think we quiesce the farm. Is this
recommended or required in my enviroment (where Prj Server shares Farm with
the rest of the intranet/teams/projects portals) ?

Someone with more depth in SharePoint can correct me if I'm wrong, but I
believe that proper procedure for rebooting servers in a SharePoint farm is
to first quiesce the farm to stop all new connections and give users the
ability to complete their work.

Thanks for the suggestion Garry. We reboot boxes at about 2am average once a
month so have not noticed anyone actually using the sites at the time (only
available via the LAN connections). Probably thats why we were 'lucky' so far
not to get any more serious issues.

Having said that, I got this issue (duplicate my tasks web part) with the
user who has never logged on to the PWA previously and it was whilst we were
demonstrating him the 'My Tasks' functionality that we have noticed this
odditiy. So far we've had this come up on 5 out of 200 users... Can't find
anythign in common for user IDs.

I think this is probably worth opening a case with Microsoft. I've seen
other odd behaviors reported in the NGs concerning the My Tasks web part,
but I don't think enough people are opening cases to get Microsoft's
attention.
